WHAT WE DO

What TOIVO does.

TOIVO is building TOIVO Pathways, TOIVO Passport and TOIVO School Agent OS.

HOW IT FITS TOGETHER

Four stages from primary school to young adulthood, sharing one TOIVO Passport.

TOIVO Pathways runs in four stages by age, and every stage shares the TOIVO Passport and AI Coach. Belonging Lab is a language and culture task line that runs across all the stages. TOIVO School Agent OS is a second way in from the school side, helping schools adopt task-based learning.

  1. Explorer

    Works withSchools, parents, sponsors

    Primary 4 to 6

  2. Builder

    Works withSchools, parents, NGOs

    Secondary 1 to 3

  3. Challenge

Works withSchools, post-secondary institutions, companies and CSR teams, parents

    Secondary 4 to 6

  4. WorkLab

Works withCareers centres, colleges, companies and CSR teams

    Post-secondary and young adults

TOIVO Pathways

Students take on real tasks from companies, NGOs, universities, community and cultural partners, and build up capability, work, reflection, digital credentials and future opportunities step by step

Outcome
Students build up a TOIVO Passport, digital credentials and a direction for their next step. The credentials are Open Badges 3.0 compatible.

Real tasks and the five-step loop

Belonging Lab

The city as a classroom

Language practice and intercultural tasks that support new students, new arrivals in Hong Kong and learners from diverse backgrounds.

Language practice
Handle a public service or campus enquiry in Cantonese, Traditional Chinese or English
Community visits
Interview residents, shopkeepers, community workers or service users
Cultural creation
Make a bilingual “Hong Kong living guide for new students” or a city culture route
Inclusive design
Design easy-to-use cultural experiences for non-Chinese speakers, older people and new arrivals
Works with
Student affairs offices, international offices, language centres, schools, NGOs

TOIVO Passport

A capability record managed by the student. It holds the capability framework, work, revisions and assessment, and Evidence Packs. Sharing needs the student’s permission, and for minors a parent’s consent as well.

AI Coach
Identifies gaps, supports tasks, prompts reflection, translates outcomes for others and suggests next steps

What the TOIVO Passport records

TOIVO School Agent OS

Schools bring AI into teaching, student support, values education, life education, career and life planning, and home-school collaboration in a way that is safe, manageable and human-centred

Works with
Principals, teachers, class teachers, career and life planning teams, moral and civic education teams, guidance teams and administrative staff
How it works
Teachers build tasks and rubrics from templates; the school manages permissions, consent and AI use
Core path
School-based knowledge · Teacher support · Student thinking · Governance · Evidence of impact
Outcome
Schools build school-based AI capability within the work they already do

How we work with schools

WHY TOIVO

Motivation from real tasks.

Real tasks create real motivation. Information and content are within easy reach. What students often lack is a real problem worth committing to, where they can see the value they bring.

TOIVO puts students in front of real-world challenges, for example:

  1. How can we help older people spot online scams and false health information?
  2. How can we use data to improve energy use, transport or waste on campus?
  3. How can we design support that helps new students from different backgrounds settle into school?
  4. How can we tell Hong Kong’s cultural stories to different audiences in the city’s two written and three spoken languages?
  5. How can we propose services for an NGO, social enterprise or company that are more empathetic and more workable?
  6. How can we use AI to solve problems while protecting privacy, fairness and human dignity?

When students know their task has a real audience, concrete constraints and a chance of feedback from a partner, their commitment comes from:

  1. A problem I care about

  2. A next step I can take

  3. Progress I can see

  4. A real contribution to others

THE TOIVO PATHWAYS METHOD

The loop, the assessment and the credential.

Three parts. The first is how a task is run, the second is how the work is judged, the third is what the student walks away with.

The five-step loop

Brief, Build, Feedback, Refine, Verify. Every step leaves one artifact, and the artifacts accumulate into an Evidence Pack. After the fifth step comes the next opportunity.

The rubric

What we judge: problem definition, responsible AI use, bilingual communication, revision quality, and the ability to explain a trade-off.

The credential

Open Badges 3.0 compatible. Each credential states its criteria, the evidence behind it, the issuer, and how to revoke it.

THE COMMON CORE

One standard, four domains, different scaffolding.

We do not stream young people by where they are from or which language they started in. Everyone works toward the same four domains. What differs is the language support, the case material, the task difficulty and how the work may be submitted.

Language and expression

Traditional Chinese, Cantonese, Putonghua, English. Reading, speaking, writing, presenting, and communicating in digital form.

Shows up asSelf-introduction, bilingual messages, email, interview, deck, video or podcast

Hong Kong, culture and the world

Life and institutions in Hong Kong, roots in Chinese culture, world cultures and public issues.

Shows up asCity exploration, cultural comparison, community interview, issue reflection

Intercultural collaboration

Listening with empathy, handling misunderstanding, negotiating, dividing work, repairing conflict, deciding together.

Shows up asTeam contract, meeting record, peer feedback, collaboration reflection

AI-ready problem solving

AI fundamentals, fact-checking, privacy, copyright, bias, prompt design, comparing options, and holding human judgement.

Shows up asPrompt and version log, verification sheet, decision note, AI use statement, prototype

TOIVO PASSPORT

Growth you can see.

TOIVO believes no student should be defined by a single score, exam paper, test or AI judgement.

The TOIVO Passport brings the following together:

  1. What tasks I have completed
  2. How I think, research and make choices
  3. What mistakes I have made, and how I revised
  4. What feedback I have had from teachers, mentors, partners and beneficiaries
  5. What capabilities I have shown
  6. What issues I care about
  7. How I work with others and create value
  8. What I want to explore next

Each task leaves one Evidence Pack. The TOIVO Passport gathers the evidence from many tasks into a single record.

Students can show how they have grown through real work, process and reflection.

WHAT TOIVO BUILDS ON

Design grounded in learning science.

TOIVO’s system and content design draws on learning science, cognitive science, developmental psychology, motivation theory, neuroscience and responsible AI principles.

How we design for learning

Attention
Tasks have a clear purpose, a manageable load and a low-distraction way in
Active engagement
Students predict, ask questions, explain, create, discuss and make decisions
Feedback on errors
Errors are used for diagnosis and revision. Students are not shamed or labelled for them.
Consolidation
Learning is consolidated through spaced review, retrieval practice, teaching others and applying it in new contexts
Metacognition
Students learn to plan, monitor and evaluate their own learning strategies
Autonomy, competence, relatedness
Tasks offer choice, achievable challenges and support from real people
Authentic context
Knowledge is connected to daily life, community, culture, industry and social issues
Recovery and rhythm
The platform protects focus, rest, digital boundaries and a sustainable pace of learning
Identity and future self
Students explore “who I want to become” in a way they can keep revising
Social contribution
Students’ capability and work create real value for others

After “Did you get it right?”, we go on to ask: How did you think it through? How did you revise? What did you learn? Where can you use it? Who did it help?
